What led us to choose adoption

Becoming parents has always been extremely important to us. Early on we knew there was a possibility Amy may have difficulty getting pregnant. For this reason, adoption has always been a consideration for us.

We tried for four years to conceive naturally. After suffering a miscarriage and undergoing fertility treatment, we began researching the adoption process. Fortunately for us, Mike’s co-worker had just completed a successful international adoption and we were able to see the love and joy that their daughter brings first hand. It was not a difficult decision. Adoption was the natural choice for us. The support and encouragement we have received from family and friends have been phenomenal.

We consider adoption a precious gift of unconditional love and selflessness. We have an abundance of love, laughter, and warmth to offer your child in addition to strong personal values and morals. Your child will know how much you love them and that you wanted to give them the very best that life has to offer. Being chosen to adopt your child would be the greatest blessing we could receive in life.

Our Home & Neighborhood

One of the reasons we chose our neighborhood was because we knew it would be perfect for raising a family. We live in a safe, family-oriented community with parks, playgrounds, baseball fields, walking/biking trails, and swimming pools. The elementary and middle schools are within walking distance of our home and are ranked in the top 90th percentile in California. We are fortunate to have neighbors with young children ranging from 8 months to 12 years of age. Every weekend we see families out with their children in wagons, strollers, and on bikes.

On Memorial Day weekend, the community pool has a “Summer Kick Off” celebration where the neighborhood is invited to come eat, play, and swim. On the Fourth of July, the town has a huge parade where local companies and organizations design cool floats for the festivities. The holidays are a special time in our neighborhood as most families decorate with lights and celebrate with neighborhood parties.

Our three-bedroom home is warm and inviting. We spend the majority of our time in the kitchen and family room as we love to entertain with family and friends. You will also find us outside on many days working in our garden. We live close to San Francisco which allows us the opportunity to attend many cultural and professional sporting events. We love our home and are excited to share it with a little one!

Our Extended Familes

We both come from very close, loving, supportive families. Fortunately, the majority of our immediate and extended family live close by and we see them often. Both of our parents have been happily married for 45 years and enjoy spending time with their grandchildren. They are looking forward to the addition of another grandchild.

Mike has an older sister who is married with two children. Our niece and nephew spend weekends with us individually so they get their own special time. We’ve taken them camping, to baseball games, amusement parks, cultural exhibits, and the aquarium. We get together for holidays and special occasions, spending time cooking/barbequing, visiting relatives, and playing games. Making tamales on Christmas Eve is a family tradition we look forward to each year.

Amy has an older brother who is married with a three year old son. We often travel together, visiting places like Kauai, Costa Rica, New York, Chicago, and Colorado. Every summer, we go on an annual camping trip which is filled with eating, hiking, fishing, and camp fires. We also spend time going to concerts, plays, museums, parks, and baseball games. Holidays are filled with lots of food and laughter while playing board games and doing crossword puzzles. Stockings are a special Christmas tradition and we can’t wait to add a little stocking to the bunch!

How we met

We met 22 years ago while attending college. We both majored in Nutrition and had many of the same classes together. We spent time studying, running, talking, laughing but never dated. Amy remembers… “I always had a secret crush on Mike, but at the time we were in separate relationships.” Yet, we always wondered how things would be different if we had the opportunity. We finished college as good friends and went our separate ways.

Ten years passed and Amy wondered… “Who was the lucky girl to ‘snag’ Mike?” She discovered through a mutual friend that he was still single and contacted him through email. Mike remembers… “I know exactly where I was when I received that email. I was super excited to hear from her and immediately wanted to see her.” We met up with friends over Thanksgiving weekend and began dating one month later. We dated for five years before tying the knot. Mike proposed on “lucky seven” day – 7/7/07. Mike laughs… “That was a great day. I called my family to give them the good news and my Uncle says, ‘That’s great news! You’re lucky, she’s really a good cook’.” We have been happily married for five years and are reminded each day how fortunate we are to have found one another. Who would have guessed that a college crush would have led to a lifetime of happiness!
